ESOL student gets offered a place at medical school, within three hours of his interview
An ESOL learner (English as a speaker of other languages), who completed his course at Greater Brighton Metropolitan College in March 2021, has since gained a top place at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, where he will train to become a doctor.
The medical school offered Ali his place within three hours of his interview, which is a remarkable achievement.
Ali thanked the College’s Widening Participation team, and said, “They helped a lot - from how to apply for a medicine course in the UK and getting familiar with the UCAS process, to choosing different universities to apply to. The ESOL staff also helped me to gain different volunteering roles to achieve good work experience before applying to universities.”
After completing his training, Ali is looking forward to working for the NHS. He said, “No-one should think English language is a barrier to achieve their goals. From my experience, the staff supported me whenever I asked them for help. So, just find the right people and ask for their support!”
Staff at GB MET are very proud of Ali’s fantastic achievements and wish him every success for the future.
