Why this course?
Environmental science is a broad discipline which is at the heart of many current global and local issues such as pollution, climate change, population growth and sustainable development.
You will study aspects of climate change, biodiversity and conservation, pollution and control, ecosystems and water issues. You will also acquire laboratory and practical analytical skills, as well as develop your numeracy and scientific writing skills and IT. In addition to these subjects, you will also have the opportunity to take part in field work, and choose a topic for an Independent Research Project.
This course will prepare you for Higher Education by increasing self confidence in your learning ability as well as developing the necessary academic skills such as essay writing and research skills.
If you are interested in pursuing a career in this field, then this course could be perfect for you. This course is a recognised qualification that universities accept as an entry route onto degree courses. With the skills and knowledge provided by this course, you can apply for a variety of scientific degree courses.
You must have a GCSE grade 9-4 (A* - C) in English and Maths.
You will be required to attend an interview with a member of the department.
The full Access Diploma is worth 60 level three credits; 45 are graded credits and the remaining 15 must be achieved but are ungraded.
