We offer a wide range of free short courses to help you take that first step into your new career. You will also develop the skills and knowledge you need to get back into employment.

Bookkeeping

This Level 1 short course will help you develop an understanding of the role of the bookkeeper, including the need for accuracy and confidentiality at work. You will study accounting terms and principles, and learn how to record business transactions in books of prime entry correctly. Receive a Bookkeeping Award accredited by the AAT.

Common Health Conditions

This course will lead to an NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Common Health Conditions. 

A six-week online course for individuals keen to learn more about long term health conditions including stroke, Parkinson's Disease, arthritis and more. Suitable for anyone entering work in the healthcare environment or working with people already. The course is supported by classroom study and ongoing tutor support.

Common Health Conditions

Construction

You will learn about the construction industry and gain practical skills during this four-week introduction.

The course will cover an introduction to carpentry, bricklaying and dry lining and prepare you for the CSCS card test. You will meet contractors and attend live working sites. You will also cover employability skills such as CV writing, job searching and applying and starting your own business. You will gain a Level 1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment qualification. 

Duration: 4 weeks. Courses run from Monday - Friday.

Counselling

Location: Brighton MET Central Campus
Qualification: Level 1 Award in Interpersonal Skills

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to develop their listening and counselling skills. For those working in situations where communication and one-to-one interviews or interactions take place, or for anyone who is interested in progressing into further counselling training. The course is taught by an experienced tutor and practising counsellor. Upon completion, you will achieve an NCFE Level 1 Award in Interpersonal Skills qualification.

Door Supervisor + CCTV Operator (SIA) & Employability Award

Door Supervisor + CCTV Operator (SIA) & Employability Award short course.
Qualification: Accredited Level 1 course in employability. SIA CCTV Operator.

Door Supervisor + CCTV Operator (SIA) & Employability Award

Graphic design

A fun, interactive course taught by creative media professionals covering an introduction to graphic design. You will learn how to create layouts, use typography and the basics of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. Also, how to add QR codes and hyperlinks to create interactive pdfs. The course enables you to create a portfolio of work or self-promotional materials e.g. business cards, eye catching CVs and more. On successful completion of the course you will receive two accredited qualifications - a Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills and a Level 1 Certificate in Interactive Media. Applicants should be comfortable working on computers and have an interest in design.

Maximise Job Prospects

Our new Maximise Your Job Prospects course runs for one week. It will provide learners with practical tips, 1:1 coaching and support from a friendly and experienced tutor, and aims to improve self-confidence, motivation and employability skills. You will be given help and advice to showcase your talents and deal with gaps in your CV or a lack of work experience. You will also receive practical tips and advice on job searching, using social media to assist with finding roles and filling out online applications.

  • Identify your existing key skills and strengths and those employers are looking for
  • Create a CV that stands out
  • Interview preparation, with a practice session and constructive feedback
