Assistance has been provided to ESHT to upskill their existing staff via apprenticeships, alongside newly recruited staff who commence their apprenticeship courses with the College upon joining the Trust. When the College first signs up an apprentice at ESHT, a robust process is followed to ensure that a consistent, quality service is provided to every new apprentice, in-line with the Trust’s ethos. As a result of the College’s support, the Trust has retained all of their apprentices into permanent positions upon completion of their programme, and many have gained subsequent promotions and/or received pay rises as a result of their success.
The Trust has appreciated the College’s flexible delivery in supporting all aspects of the apprenticeships in the workplace, including Functional Skills (English, maths and ICT).Additional Learning Support has also been arranged for learners with specific support needs e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia, Asperger syndrome and autism. Following learner and employer feedback, the College invested in a dedicated team of Functional Skills specialists who provide flexible one-to-one support in the workplace alongside planned training sessions at the College, and who develop delivery in the context of the working environment. This significantly improved success and impacted positively upon retention rates.

When it comes to finding and hiring an apprentice, there are lots of organisations that talk a good game and we’ve tried a few, but the MET makes it happen.
They have supplied us with really great apprentices, some of which have gone on to join us full-time following the completion of their course. In addition, the team at GB MET are always very friendly, helpful and professional throughout the entire recruitment process and duration of the apprenticeship. We highly recommend them.
