Assistant Accountant - Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship

Course Type: Apprenticeships Start Date: September 2019 Duration: Eighteen months Entry requirements: Functional Skills may be required dependant on apprenticeship and previous qualifications achieved. Qualification: AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting Level 3

Why this apprenticeship?

This apprenticeship aims to provide apprentices with the specialist knowledge and skills required for progressing within an accounting or finance role. 

The level three will help the apprentice to master financial processes including accounting principles and concepts, advanced bookkeeping and final accounts. 


Apprenticeships are available for school leavers and adults (19+), beginning at Level 2 through to degree level.

What levels are available?


Wages vary depending on the type of apprenticeship but there is a national minimum wage (NMW) in the UK which applies to all 16-18 year olds and to those aged 19 or over in the first year of their studies. From October 2017, this is £3.50 per hour. However, the MET encourages employers to pay at a higher hourly rate.

Entry requirements

Anyone aged 16 or over can apply for an apprenticeship. You cannot be self-employed and must have lived in the UK or EU for the past three years to be eligible.

This programme requires the learner to already be in a finance or accounts role.

Functional Skills in maths, English, & ICT may also be required dependant on Apprenticeship framework and previous qualifications achieved.

Course content

This apprenticeship will prepare learners for roles in accounting and will develop the skills that are required to carry out job roles and responsibilities associated with accounts technicians.

The Level 3 delivers a solid foundation in finance administration - covering areas such as best practice principles and double entry bookkeeping. Apprentices will also gain an understanding of business issues such as ethical practices for accountants. The training is designed for apprentices who are currently working within an accountancy role.
