Why this course?

Studying Beauty Therapy at Brighton MET is fun, exciting and will give you the skills, confidence and most importantly, the experience to progress into employment or further your skills through study.

This vocational course will extend your skills as a Beauty Therapist by introducing you to a large range of specialist beauty treatments and give you the opportunity to develop your skills in customer service, communication and commerciality, all of which are highly valued by employers. This increased depth of knowledge will prepare you for work in salons, hotels, health and fitness spas, airlines, cruise liners and department stores in the UK or overseas.

The MET has three professional hair and beauty salons on campus. This provides a fantastic working and study environment for our students, who provide treatments to paying customers, giving them real-world experience, which is vital for employment upon graduation. Our expert tutors will give you the skills and confidence necessary for this varied and exciting industry.

Entry requirements

Start at Level 2 if you have at least 3 GCSEs at grade 3 (D/E) or above, including English, science and preferably maths. 

Start at Level 1 if you have at least 2 GCSEs at grade 2 (F) or above, preferably including English and maths. 

If you do not have the above qualifications, you can start on the Get Started in Hair & Beauty course.

In addition to the specified entry requirements, you may be required to undergo an assessment of your English skills to ensure you are at a sufficient level for your chosen course.

Assessment

  • Service portfolio (does not contribute to the overall qualification grade)
  • Graded practical assessments (50% of qualification grade)
  • Graded synoptic assessment (20% of qualification grade)
  • External examination (30% of qualification grade)

Work experience

Our beauty department has very strong links with local employers, many of whom started their own careers at Brighton MET. 

You will have an opportunity to undertake work experience, which often leads to gaining a permanent position or making valuable contacts.

We hold an annual careers day where local, national and international employers will give seminars. This will give you valuable information and advice about progression opportunities and setting up your own business.

We also hold training days, trips to trade shows and have guest speakers to keep all of your training and knowledge current and up to date.

During the make-up course you may experience external trips or seminars with Kryolan, Mac and Bobbi Brown.

What's next?

Students who achieve this qualification are eligible to become members of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) or Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).

On successful completion of Level 2 Beauty Therapy you may wish to continue your studies at Brighton MET and progress to a Level 3 qualification in Beauty Therapy or Media Hair & Makeup.

Course costs

UK and EU students do not have to pay fees if they are under 19 on 31 August in the year they are studying. More information about fees for college courses and financial support for 16-19 year olds can be found here.

Conduct

Please note this is a professional course and you will be required to comply with professional standards, this includes wearing the required full uniform, removing all piercings and jewellery and refraining from wearing nail extensions and nail varnish.
