The Bluebell Railway

Last week one of our Employability Risk Assessors, Jon Witton, completed a College Safety Check at the Bluebell railway!

It was like stepping back in time looking at all the trains they restored back to their absolute glory.

There was even a film company there when he arrived.

The Bluebell railway currently offers work experience and apprenticeship placements for our students to assist them in gaining an insight to this interesting line of work and the skills required to work in this fascinating industry.

Here's a quote from a current student Tom,

‘Work experience has been an amazing opportunity for me to understand the working world better. I am currently at the Carriage and Wagon works at the Bluebell Railway, which has tested and honed the theory and practical skills that I am learning about in my BTEC Level 3 Engineering course. Doing my work experience once a week has added so much to my knowledge of engineering, as well as an understanding of the complexities in components and systems that work behind the scenes to make things work.

Generally, I found that work experience is a fun way to get stuck into your subject and learn while you do it.  ‘

Fabulous work Tom, keep up the good work!
