The Covid-19 pandemic has had an undeniable effect on the UK employment sector, with 16-24 year olds being the main segment to bear the brunt of nationwide lockdowns and restrictions.

As the economy bounces back and the government furlough scheme officially comes to a close, the volume of vacancies is reportedly reaching record highs, with more jobs up for grabs with every passing month.

According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), there were 1.66 million open vacancies by the end of August, and the number is set to continue rising.

As shown by the REC and industry data, among the most needed workers are nurses (79,123 vacancies), programmers & software developers (68,929), care workers & home carers (49,751), primary & nursery education professionals (30,574), chefs (29,996), sales & retail assistants (26,183), cleaners & domestics (24,148) and carpenters & joiners (6,364).
