Estates Strategy Update - 6 March 2018
Central Campus Brighton
Brighton Metropolitan College (the MET) has been awarded £5 million of Local Growth Funding by Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to redevelop its city-centre campus on Pelham Street. The funding will allow the MET to build a new Centre for Creative and Digital Industries that will train the next generation of creative and digital workers.
The £5 million LEP grant will be matched by a significant College investment generated primarily through the disposal of land on the East of Pelham Street creating a £16 million redevelopment fund. The Centre will be housed in a new 2,700m2 state-of-the-art facility integrated into Pelham Tower which will be substantially refurbished. The new and refurbished buildings will create cutting-edge teaching facilities located in the heart of the Brighton’s creative, digital and IT cluster.
Work is underway on the design and layouts of the new and refurbished buildings. Full public consultation on the plans will take place ahead of submission of a planning application later in the year.
Estates Strategy Update - 6 July 2017
Following the merger of City College Brighton and Hove and Northbrook College Sussex to become the MET, the new institution benefits from recent new builds in Broadwater and Durrington in Worthing, and at the East Brighton Campus. The MET is also positioned for longer term investment to improve its remaining facilities which have yet to be upgraded.
The predecessor colleges' property plans will be combined into a new Estates Strategy. This will be developed over the course of the 2017/18 academic year and more details, including those related to the Pelham Campus, will be published once the Board has reviewed plans developed by our Executive team.
At the East Brighton Campus, the new £9m Construction and Trades Centre has been completed. It will be fitted out over the summer and operational for the 2017/18 academic year.
