What are foundation learning courses?

On our foundation learning courses, you will receive a high-level of support and encouragement aimed at increasing academic, social and independence skills. We know that having the support you need is crucial to your success at college so our experienced tutors and teaching assistants will help you develop skills to help you manage your learning improve your English, Maths and ICT to help you progress to the next level.

If you want to gain a taste of the subject of your choice and build your self-confidence and self-esteem through working within small classes to achieve a appropriate qualification at Entry Level or Level 1 our foundation learning courses are for you.

Catering - Entry Certificate in Skills for Working Life

We offer a 1 year course in Food Preparation and Cooking (B0667) for people aged 16+, who have specified physical, emotional or learning needs and therefore need a little more support. The groups are small and there are no entry requirements.

You will be in college for about 16 hours a week where you will learn basic cooking skills as well as the theory of catering to gain an NVQ Level 1, a Food Hygiene Certificate and complete a basic numeracy qualification.

Foundation Learning - Life Skills

This one year Full-time course is for students aged 16–22, who might have a moderate learning difficulty or disability such as Down’s syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, learners on the Autistic spectrum and those who need more support with independence skills.

On this course receive a high-level of support and encouragement aimed at increasing academic, social and independence skills as well as introducing work readiness skills.

Foundation Learning - Life Skills

Level 1 courses

We offer Entry Level and Level 1 courses designed to help you progress to a further course or to employment. Supported programmes are a great way to enter education. You may have, for whatever reason, been unsuccessful in your GCSEs, or found that school wasn't quite the right learning environment for you. Whatever your reasons, or needs, we have programmes so that you can continue in education or find employment.

Whichever course is the right one for you - we will offer support, smaller class sizes, understanding and a fun and engaging time at College.
