Human Resources - CIPD Diploma in Human Resource Management Level 5
This qualification offers you the opportunity to build on your expertise in your chosen HR subjects, gain a Diploma qualification highly respected by employers and achieve a professional level of CIPD Associate membership (Assoc CIPD).
Course aims and areasOur tutors are HR qualified and highly experienced HR professionals, and provide an engaging and stimulating learning experience to enable you to leave with the confidence, knowledge and most importantly, experience to further progress your career in roles such as HR Generalist, HR Manager, HR Business Partner, Talent Development, Talent Acquisition.
The full Diploma provides increased depth of knowledge and understanding on how HR functions are structured and operate across different sectors and size of organisations. In addition, you will focus on the complexities of managing a HR function and insights on how to improve organisational performance through workplace culture and performance management.
In addition to our tutors, we invite guest speakers from industry (HR Directors), CIPD Sussex Branch, Institute of Employment Studies and Employment Lawyers such as Employment Law Ltd, to share a range of HR practitioner insights and experience as well as evidence-based HRM research and expertise knowledge.
Level 5 Certificate Qualification - Six Units:
- Developing Professional Practice
- Business Issues and the Context of Human Resources
- Using Information in HR
- Resourcing and Talent Planning
- Employee Engagement
- Employment Law
Level 5 Diploma Qualification – you need to complete an additional two units:
- Managing and Coordinating a Human Resource Function
- Improving Organisational Performance

The College is in a prime location with an abundance of local businesses across private, public, voluntary/not-for-profit and SME sectors where they rely heavily on the expertise of HR professionals. Many employers utilise the college to advertise HR roles to seek future talent. In addition, the College partners closely with local recruitment consultants who share their knowledge of the local and regional job market, enabling you to further enhance your employability and career as a HR professional.
After this course, you may gain the confidence, knowledge and experience to move onto a new, more senior role or secure a promotion with your current organisation or an external one.
70% of students gain a promotion either within their current organisation or secure a new or enhanced role externally, advancing their career as a result of completing the course. Some go onto complete Advanced Level 7 in HRM.
The College has a Learning Resource Centre which provides text books, journals and online cataloguing to support your studies. It also has study areas and computers to support you with your written assessment.
Learning Support is also available in addition to individual tutorials which can be organised via your Course Tutor.
- Experience in a HR role and/or
- Completed Level 3 CIPD Certificate in Human Resource Practice
All applicants require an interview and possibly a written assessment pending on level of experience.
You are expected to be a CIPD member to study this qualification which will incur an additional fee. As part of this membership you will receive monthly People Management Magazine, gain access to a wealth of online study support, learning materials such as podcasts, videos, research reports, fact-sheets and become a member of the CIPD Sussex Branch which hosts a wide range of networking events across the region.
CIPD also advises you to purchase up to three textbooks to support your learning on the course.
