Course aims and areas

On this exciting, advanced course, you will learn how to professionally administer therapies such as swedish body massage, reflexology and aromatherapy.

There is a strong theoretical element including anatomy and physiology, health and safety, healthy lifestyle and business practice.

A weekly minimum of 4-5 hours home study is required plus substantial additional hours for practical home case studies (approx. 200 hrs).

This qualification is appropriate for learners wishing for a career in the industry or in a self-employed capacity.

Work Experience

Our beauty & complementary therapies department has very strong links with local employers many of whom started their own careers at Brighton MET.

All of our students will have an opportunity to undertake work experience, which often leads to gaining a permanent position within that company.

We hold an annual careers day where local, national and international employers will come and give seminars. This will give you valuable information and advice about progression opportunities and setting up your own businesses.

We also hold training days, trips to trade shows and have guest speakers to keep all of your training and knowledge current and up to date.

What's Next?

Whilst this qualification’s primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a complementary therapist; learners may choose to complement their skills base by undertaking specialist qualifications in related therapies such as:

  • Indian head massage 
  • Stone therapy (QCF)
  • Sports massage
  • Auricular therapies (ear candling)
  • Baby/Infant massage
  • Beauty therapy 


Our Beauty department benefits from several fantastic facilities that will provide you with a real-world training experience and a top education.

These include professional standard beauty and hairdressing salons that are open to the general public, providing a realistic working environment.

We also offer the use of high end, industry branded equipment and products, plus additional training from external companies, such as Eve Taylor.


You will also have to purchase a uniform and kits (costs TBC)

In addition to the above, you will be required to purchase a portfolio pack (approx £10) and to pay costs for any trips such as the Lavender Farm trip.

Typical Tasks:

  • Determines staffing, financial, material and other short- and long-term needs.
  • Controls the allocation, training and remuneration of staff.
  • Provides clients with information and advice on styles and treatments, and resolves any complaints or problems.

Typical Tasks:
