This course will help you develop your understanding of business theories and how they can be linked to business practice. It will give you the skills and confidence to make your entrepreneurial ideas work more successfully in the real world. It will provide you with an educational foundation for a range of administrative and management careers and give you a route into specialised studies directly relevant to individual vocations and professions.

You will gain flexibility, knowledge, skills and motivation skills, as a basis for future studies and career development. The course will also provide you with a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.

This business course will meet your needs whether you are a student who is continuing your education and wanting a clear route into either a good job, or gaining a BA (Hons) degree, or a mature student who wants to return and gain a missed educational qualification. Higher National Diplomas are nationally recognised qualifications that can improve your CV and lead you to a successful career in Business.

Course Units

The HND in Business is run as a modular course over 2 years. Students are required to complete and pass 16 units, eight in year 1 and eight in year 2. There are eight business core units and eight specialist units. 

Year 1 core units:

  • Business and the business environment
  • Marketing essentials
  • Human resource management
  • Management and operations
  • Management accounting
  • Managing a successful business project

Year 2 core units:

  • Research project and organisational behaviour

The course is assessed by a mixture of in-course assignment work and end of unit examination assignments. Course work assignments can take the form of:
