Course aims and areas

Studying childcare at Brighton MET will leave you with the skills, confidence and most importantly, the experience, to further your skills in working with young children or progress to university.

The course is a mix of vocational and academic studies to prepare you for employment in a childcare setting.

It offers you the opportunity to work with children of a range of ages in a variety of settings, so you gain the academic knowledge and practical skills needed to work within the childcare industry.

This is an excellent course which can also start a career in teaching or social work if you choose.

All 16-19 (full-time) courses require an application review meeting. This is a chance for us to talk through your choice of choice and ensure it's right for you.

There are specific CEFR proficiency requirements for international students.

Course Costs

All 16-19 (full-time) courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31 August 2017. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment. The cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.

Brighton MET is keen to offer our students work experience placements, particularly with the increasing importance for students to complete placements as part of their study programmes across all industry areas.

What's next?

After completing Year 1 of this Certificate in Childcare and Education (EYE) most students progress to  Year 2, studying the Diploma in Childcare and Education (EYE). Upon completion of Year 2 most students go out to employment in a nursery, primary school or as a nanny or go on to university studying teaching or childhood studies.
