What will I gain from a work placement?

- Develop new skills
- Increase in confidence
- Become more independent
- Work in a team
- Develop skills and knowledge for your CV and future interviews
- Do something different
- Gain career ideas
- Learn about the world of work
- Gain a sense of achievement
How does it work?
During your first few weeks at college, you will be told when you should be going out on work experience.
This might be for a block week, or an extended placement of 1-2 days a week over several weeks.
You should start looking for relevant employers that may be able to offer you work experience now.
You can also ask family and friends if they are in an industry sector that is relevant to your chosen course subject.
How does it work?
You will be given a Work Experience Registration Form to complete and return to us so that the placement can be agreed and any necessary checks completed. This must be returned at least six weeks before the planned placement start date.
During your placement you will record your tasks, activities and achievements in a Work Experience Journal.
This information can be used to create a CV, update your Individual Learning Plan or provide evidence towards your coursework.
