Entry requirements: You will need to pass an English assessment to ensure that your current English skills are at a sufficient level to cope with the demands of the course. End qualification: GCSE in English Language Awarding body: AQA Course location: Brighton Metropolitan College, Central Campus Course fees: Free if you do not already hold a grade 'C' or a grade 4 in English GCSE. Assessment: 8 controlled assessments throughout the course and a final exam.

Course aims and areas

As an essential qualification for many jobs and courses, GCSE English aims to develop your oral communication, language, reading and creative writing skills.

The course comprises study of a variety of texts, the development of writing skills (including punctuation and spelling) and involvement in speaking and listening activities.

Progress is monitored using a series of controlled assessments throughout the course and a final exam at the end.
