Course aims and areas

This HND offers a clear pathway into the conference, hospitality and event industry. It aims to provide you with the management knowledge needed to work successfully in this dynamic industry.

The course blends level 4 and 5 Hospitality Management units to incorporate topics such as practical work experience, event planning processes, marketing events, business tool kit and finance and developing your managerial skills.

Course Units

This HND is run as a modular course over two years. There are nine core units and four specialist units.

Year 1:

  • The contemporary hospitality industry 
  • Managing the customer experience
  • Professional identity and practice
  • The hospitality business toolkit
  • Leadership and management for service industries
  • Plus additional units

Year 2:

  • Research project
  • Hospitality consumer behaviour and insight
  • Managing and planning an event
  • Global events
  • Plus two additional units

Assessment

Courses are taught with a combination of facilitated learning and practical workshops, with the added expectation of self-directed study.

Students will be expected to work as part of a team and independently in order to complete scheduled work.
