Routes and qualifications

Two-year courses

We offer a range of FdA and FdEng courses, as well as an HND in Computing. These are two year full-time courses at the same level as the first two years of traditional Honours degrees. FdA qualifications were established in 2001 as vocationally-focused national qualifications, developed in conjunction with employers and industry. Many thousands of students in the UK have studied these qualifications and they are well regarded by employers.

Three-year courses

These are often known as ‘first degrees’ and courses normally take three years full-time (or five years part-time).

Two+one-year degree routes

On successful completion of a two-year FdA, students have the option to ‘top up’ with one more year’s study in order to achieve an Honours degree (subject to course specific requirements and available space). Our BA ‘top-up’ degrees are one-year full-time courses which are intended for students who have already completed two-year qualifications.

Routes and qualifications

Part-time courses

A number of our degree courses can be studied on a part-time basis over a longer period, allowing students to fit studying around working life.

Pre-degree courses

Students interested in Art, Design and Media subjects can study a one year Foundation Diploma course prior to starting a degree level course. Not to be confused with the two year FdA course, this course confirms career choices, providing the breadth of experience necessary to progress to Higher Education. The MET’s Foundation Diploma is validated by the University of the Arts London and has an excellent record for students progressing to degree courses.

We also offer a range of Access to Higher Education courses. Read more here.

International Foundation Programmes

International students looking to for a pathway to university can study an International Foundation Programme, a one-year academic programme designed to prepare international students for undergraduate study in the UK. The programme provides academic preparation for first year entry into university and ensures students meet the minimum English language requirement for entry to their chosen undergraduate degree programme.
