Why this course?

If you are interested in training as a professional decorator or adding this trade to your existing skillset, then this Level 2 qualification is ideal. 

This course will teach you the skills you will need to work within the painting and decorating industry. You will  practise in our workshop which simulates real working conditions. You will learn about construction techniques, surface preparation, techniques for applying paint and decorative finishes.

Course content

This course is mostly practical work, however theory is also an important part of the course.
There are knowledge and understanding questions to be completed for each unit.
There is also a practical assignment – which includes preparing and painting flush doors and hanging wallpaper; this assessment must be successfully completed as well as a City & Guilds on-line exam at the end of the course.

  • Safe working practices in construction
  • Information, quantities and communicating with others
  • Building methods and construction technology
  • Preparing surfaces for decoration
  • Applying paint systems by brush and roller
  • Applying standard papers to walls and ceilings
  • Producing specialist decorative finishes
  • Applying water-borne paint systems using high volume low pressure (HVLP) spray equipment
  • Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms

What's next?

This course will lead on to the level 3 Diploma in Painting and Decorating.

The Level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating will allow you to gain entry to your chosen career of painting & decorating and will also give you a good understanding of general construction work.

Another important feature of the qualification is that it provides a progression route towards achieving a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ).
