Chinese Calligraphy

This course is for anyone who is interested in eastern art and wants to explore Chinese INK, brushes and formation of Chinese characters. With the combination of meaning and artistic appearance, students can produce a range of short poems with Chinese or English on traditional rice paper. Suitable for beginners or students with some experience.
Student will learn the basic formation of Chinese characters and the skill to use traditional brushes. We will also explore numerous styles - or scripts - moving toward producing independent work with meaning and aesthetic appearance, which can be used with a combination of drawing, painting or graphic designs.

By the end of the course you will be able to create individual design by copying Chinese symbols and mix with English to compliment other creative ideas.
Students may then wish to join the Chinese Brush Painting course in January or other artistic courses in the programme.
Work can form part of a portfolio for application to a Foundation Studies Course in Further and Higher Education courses.
