Chinese Brush Painting

This course is for anyone who has an interest in ink wash painting. We will explore Chinese traditional ink and brushes, and also use “raw” paper (rice paper called Shuen Paper).
We will look into the characteristics of Chinese painting and how it differs from Western watercolour, exploring composition, tone and contrast. We will work towards using colours after building confidence with handling the brushes and ink. This is a topic-based painting course and beginners are welcome.
This course will teach you the unique eastern composition, tone, contrast and marks. Students will learn the basic technique of Chinese painting styles with a range of topics like cherry blossoms and bamboos and practise how to use traditional brushes to make marks - moving toward producing independent work with aesthetic appearance with mono tone or colours.
By the end of the course you will be able to create individual painting and you may want to combine Chinese symbols and painting together.
Tutor: Peon Boyle (BA (Hons) Fine Art), fine artist and printmaker. Co-founder of Old Cartshed Studio- Printmaking and Pottery
