COVID-19 update: 16 July 2021
From Monday 19 July the country moves to Step 4 of the government’s roadmap to transition out of lockdown. Legal restrictions end on this date.
Government communications state that ‘this will mark a new phase in the government’s response to the pandemic, moving away from stringent restrictions on everyone’s day-to-day lives towards advising people on how to protect themselves and others, alongside targeted interventions to reduce risk’. More detailed information on how the government will do this is set out in COVID-19 Response: Summer 2021
The Department for Education has stated: ‘we are changing the controls that apply in early years, schools, colleges and higher education institutions to maintain a baseline of protective measures while maximising attendance and minimising disruption to children and young people’s education. We have published new guidance for arrangements in education settings from Step 4, covering both the summer period and the following term, when children will return to school.’ The full guidance can be accessed here.
Here at GB MET, we will use the summer period to review our measures ahead of staff and students returning for the autumn term. We will write to all students advising them of these measures before term begins and publish any updates on our website.
Over the summer period, please continue to test yourself regularly in line with the latest government guidance. You can order home testing kits to be delivered to you - click here to find out more. Please note you will not be able to collect these from the college during the summer.
Everyone over the age of 18 is able to book their first vaccination appointment via the NHS website. You may also be able to bring forward the date of your second appointment.
