College update - Friday 5 June
Dear Student and Parent/Carer
Since our last update, we have continued with preparations to reopen our campuses for a small number of students from 15 June. As previously stated, our priority for reopening our sites is to support any student who would be unable to complete their qualification this academic year, as planned, without an onsite assessment or face-to-face support. This is in addition to our ongoing face-to-face support for vulnerable students.
We have now received confirmation from almost all awarding bodies and we are in the process of contacting individual students to outline what it means for them. Please do contact your tutor if you have any further questions.
From Monday 15 June we will be reopening a few of our sites for the students we have identified will need to attend. To be clear, this is solely for the purpose of completing their qualification which cannot be completed online. This is typically within engineering and electrical installations to enable practical assessments to be completed.
We are taking a number of precautionary measures to protect both our staff and students attending our sites. These will include:
- Limiting the number of people on site at any one time through careful scheduling
- Requiring arrival at a specific time
- Requiring the use of hand sanitisation stations prior to entry
- Temperature checks prior to entering the premises
- Enacting one-way systems where necessary
- Ensuring social distancing within the buildings, including classrooms and workshops
- Additional cleaning
Any student invited to attend will receive clear instructions that they must adhere to when on site. Parents will also be contacted to talk through any concerns they may have.
At this point we are planning our arrangements for the start of the next academic year. We continue to plan what we will need to do to ensure we meet any required health and safety measures, closely following all updates from the Government. We will share our plans as soon as we can. In the meantime, please be assured that we take our staff and students’ wellbeing extremely seriously and will be putting in place all necessary measures to minimise any risk.
We will provide a further update next week.
