Student’s book cover shortlisted for Penguin Student Design Award
A Communication Design graduate from the MET has been shortlisted for the Penguin Student Design Award 2020.
Kate Harmsworth’s cover design for John le Carré’s novel The Night Manager caught the eye of judges in the Adult Fiction Cover Award category.
Kate found out about the awards, run by publishing company Penguin Random House, through her tutor at the MET. The cover design formed part of one of her degree projects for the year.
Kate said, “The themes and descriptions of the book, including the wealthy and lavish lives of the characters, was the main inspiration behind the ornate and detailed design”.
“Within the design are also symbols and imagery of the darker themes in the story, particularly that of paranoia, deceit and espionage. I was very grateful to have been shortlisted; it’s a great opportunity for young illustrators and designers”.

The winners will be announced on Tuesday 22 September 2020.
