Coronavirus: New government measures to protect the NHS and save lives
The single most important action we can all take to help in the fight against coronavirus is to stay at home.
By reducing our day-to-day contact with other people, we will reduce the spread of the infection. As a result, we will reduce the strain on the NHS and help save lives.

The government has introduced a series of strict new measures to ensure we’re all playing our part.
What are the new measures?
You should only leave the house for one of four reasons:
- Shopping for basic necessities such as food and medicine. This should be done as infrequently as possible. If feasible, delivery services should be used instead.
- One form of exercise a day. For example a run, walk or cycle - alone or with members of your household. You must keep at least a two-metre distance from other people at all times.
- Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
- Travelling to and from work if your job is absolutely essential and cannot be done from home.
