This course has been developed to equip students with the relevant creative and production skills for working in both broadcast television and within the multi-channel networks of the future. The ethos of this course is to fully prepare students to work in the fast developing media industry, and students work with television, media and advertising clients to develop their professional skills.

Course requirements

Portfolio and interview.

Individual offer conditions will vary. Normally a relevant A Level or Level 3 Extended Diploma.

Industry experience may be taken into account.

The course has been designed based on current digital filmmaking industry practice, which underpins the student’s evolving creative identity. Assignments focus on a wide range of moving image genres: documentary, factual programming, advertising, scriptwriting and visual storytelling.

The first year explores the technical and creative skills of digital filmmaking production, research and process. Year two explores the nature of the industry, and developing the professional skills and creative abilities necessary to prepare for the workplace. This will include a range of client/industry led ‘live’ briefs.


We have an extensive list of industry clients which include STX Entertainment, Saatchi & Saatchi, Electric Ray. The clients we work with are major national or international advertisers, production companies or film companies.

Year 3:

On successful completion of the two-year FdA course, you can progress to the optional third year BA (Hons) Creative Media Practice (Digital Filmmaking) - go to third year page

On successful completion of the two-year FdA course, students can either progress to the one-year BA top-up course in Creative Media Production (Digital Filmmaking), or seek employment.
