Why this course?

This qualification supports you to develop specialist knowledge and skills in your area of responsibility and enables you to promote a values-based culture within your setting.
It can act as a progression route from the Level 2 Diploma in Care qualification to the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services Adult pathway qualifications. The qualification also aligns to the Apprenticeship Standard for Lead Practitioner in Adult Care.
To gain this qualification, you must achieve a minimum of 70 credits to achieve the Diploma: 36 credits from the mandatory units, and a minimum of 34 credits from the optional units. At least 55 credits must be achieved at Level 4 or above.
The course covers a wide range of areas. Mandatory units include:
- Lead communication in adult care settings
- Lead inclusive practice in adult care settings
- Lead health and safety in adult care settings
How is this course delivered?
This qualification is delivered in the workplace with the use of unit workbooks and a range of assessments, including observations and reflective review.
You will build a portfolio of skills and knowledge, with support and coaching from a dedicated assessor. Evidence of knowledge and competencies are gained though assessor observation, professional discussion, witness testimony, and your own reflective reviews on the care you have provided.
It is typically an 18 month programme and you will meet your assessor monthly to set and review work.

Who is this course suitable for?
You should be at least 18 years old and hold a senior/team leader role within a care setting.
You will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as you will need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

Progression
The content of the qualification links with the knowledge and skills required for the Lead Practitioner in Adult Care apprenticeship standards. Upon completion, you can enter either the adult care or health workforces. The content is applicable to a variety of roles, including:
• adult care worker
• healthcare assistant/support worker
• personal assistant
You can progress to the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care Adult pathway qualifications.
