Experimental Embroidery

Course Type: Adult leisure and hobby, Open to international students Campus: West Durrington Campus

Why this course?

Experiment and play with hand embroidery and mixed media techniques using a variety of threads, beads, paper, fabric, drawing, stencils and collage.  The course is suitable for all abilities.

You will learn a variety of traditional embroidery techniques (using cotton, silk and metallic threads).  You will also learn how to develop them into your own unique mark making and decorative language.  Samples will be made which can be worked into a large piece. We will be making samples and working towards a finished piece that you will be able to complete by the end of the course.  You will have the tools to plan and complete an  image of our choice (from a photo or drawing) using a variety of stitches

Tutor: Nettie Rowsell.

Nettie is a freelance embroidery artist and textile restorer who trained in technical hand embroidery at The Royal School of Needlework .
