Qualifications and Specialisms
I am the Head of Construction & Engineering here at Brighton MET; I left school at 16 and did an Indentured Apprenticeship with James Longley & Co in Crawley West Sussex. They were at that time the largest and oldest joinery manufacturers in the UK. I completed my apprenticeship and moved to a smaller company in my hometown of Horsham in Sussex doing both Carpentry and Joiner works, I did return to Longley’s for a while as a joiner, training apprentices. Over a period of 30 years I worked for several different sized companies and for Christ’s Hospital School in Horsham from where I left and became self-employed. I ran my own company for many years carrying out extensions, new builds, barn conversions and general Carpentry & Building works.
Experience
I decided to move into education in 2011, to give back the skills that had earn me a very comfortable living for 30 years, my first teaching post was at my old college in Sussex and since then I have progressed to be Head of Construction and Engineering at Brighton MET.
