Pottery – Handbuilding for Beginners
This course covers the fundamentals of building with clay. Students can use these techniques to make delightful objects, from pots and vases and all that’s in between.
Students will be encouraged to experiment, making pots, ornaments, sculptures, etc. from their own ideas and designs. Students will be guided and supported individually to use clay and glazes with confidence. This course is aimed at beginners and improvers.

Topics to be covered
All main areas of hand building and finishing are covered including; different types of clay and their uses, preparation of clay, pinch pots, slab building, humping and slumping, coiling and design development, textures and oxides, slips and glazes.
During weeks 6 – 10 Students will work on set projects or develop their own ideas in clay using their newly acquired skills.
Materials for this course are included in the course fee. Please wear old clothes/an overall/apron and strong, flat, closed-toe footwear. Please also bring along a strong plastic bag to cover your work.
