Technical Theatre Production

This course covers a range of theatre arts disciplines, both performance-based and behind-the-scenes in production. You can opt to focus on either performance subjects (acting, dance, singing) or production subjects (lighting, sound, set design). If you are still deciding whether you prefer performance or production, you can opt to mix and match the course units and gain a general qualification. This will allow you to specialise further down the line in your studies. The College offers facilities unrivalled in the region, including a 160 seat professional theatre, high specification rehearsal and dance studios, and extensive production workshops.

This is a highly practical course for students with an interest in theatre and performance and culminates in two performances to the public. Students’ skills are developed through practical workshops, seminars and studio performances. Options include dance, singing and acting, costume, hair and make-up for theatre and set and prop design. The College offers facilities unrivalled in the region, including the 160-seat professional theatre, our new studio theatre, high specification rehearsal and dance studios, and extensive production workshops.

The production course builds on Northbrook College's high reputation for excellence in technical theatre, stage management, theatre design and design crafts. You will gain full production experience on a range of public shows at both The Northbrook Theatre and our new studio theatre. Resources include our fully equipped professional theatre with ETC Ion lighting desk, intelligent and generic lighting fixtures, DigiCo Digital Sound Desk, wireless and shotgun microphones, projector, video mapping software, QLab workstations, wireless technical intercom, hemp and counterweight fly tower, wardrobe, make-up, and prop studios, paint gallery and scenic workshop.

This course is free (you do not have to pay fees) if:

  • You are a UK citizen, hold EU Settlement Status or have a visa which could qualify you for home status.
  • AND you are under 19 on 31 August in the year you are studying.

This course is also free if you meet the following criteria:

  • You may not have to pay any fees if you will be aged 19 or over when you begin this course and:
  • You are a UK citizen, hold EU Settlement Status or have a visa which could qualify you for home status. 

 AND

  • You are in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • OR you are receiving a means tested benefit, earning less than £617 per month (take home) if you are a sole claimant or £988 a month if you have a joint claim with your partner, and are completing the course to improve your employability
  • OR if you are working and earn less than £20,319 per year (gross pay)
  • You will need to provide evidence and sign a declaration when you enrol.
