This course covers a range of theatre arts disciplines, both performance-based and behind-the-scenes in production.

You can opt to focus on either performance subjects (acting, dance, singing) or production subjects (lighting, sound, set design).

If you are still deciding whether you prefer performance or production, you can opt to mix and match the course units and gain a general qualification. This will allow you to specialise further down the line in your studies.

The College offers facilities unrivalled in the region, including a 160-seat professional theatre, high specification rehearsal and dance studios, and extensive production workshops.

Entry requirements

This Level 2 course is for students who at least 3 GCSEs at grade 3 (D/E) or above, preferably including English or maths.

If you do not have these grades start on the Level 1 course.

Further study

After Level 2, you can progress to a Level 3 Diploma in Theatre Technology, Dance, Acting or Design for Theatre.

If you have been exploring both performance and production elements of this exciting industry, you may want to specialise in a particular area. This could affect your choices in terms of which Level 3 course you want to progress to or what jobs are available to you if you wish to go straight into employment.

This course is free (you do not have to pay fees) if:

  • You are a UK citizen, hold EU Settlement Status or have a visa which could qualify you for home status.
  • AND you are under 19 on 31 August in the year you are studying.

Unemployed/Benefit Waiver and Level 2 Entitlement

This course is also free if you meet the following criteria:

  • You may not have to pay any fees if you will be aged 19 or over when you begin this course and:
  • You are a UK citizen, hold EU Settlement Status or have a visa which could qualify you for home status. 


  • You are in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • OR you are receiving a means tested benefit, earning less than £345 per month (take home) if you are a sole claimant or £552 a month if you have a joint claim with your partner, and are completing the course to improve your employability
  • OR if you are working and earn less than £18,525 per year (gross pay)
  • You will need to provide evidence and sign a declaration when you enrol.

All 16+ (full-time) courses are free to UK citizens, those who hold EU Settlement Status or have a visa which could qualify them for home status, AND are under 19 years old on the 31 August of the year of entry.
